Edit: So there I was, listening to my audiobook copy of Son of a Liche by J. Zachary Pike (fantastic book, fantastic series in general), what did I discover? That I absolutely and thoroughly - if subconsciously - stole the characters of Ned and Ted from it. Zach was gracious enough to let it slide, but you should all do my penance and pick up his books - I recommend the audio versions, the narrator is phenomenal.
